Christmas with an Asian Twist

Fusion of Cultures and Holiday Magic

A few days before Christmas, I had the joy of organizing a truly unique event. Set in a magnificent manor decorated with Chinese tapestries (owned by proprietors passionate about Asia), the reception was steeped in an ambiance that blended multiple cultures.

The day began with a festive buffet inspired by an Asian-themed tea time. On the table were vintage LTDJ teapots, colorful tiered dishes, and sparkling, almost kitschy decorations—a feast for the eyes. Three Christmas trees completed the décor, each meticulously adorned: orchids, vibrant baubles, and twinkling lights. Each tree had its own palette—gold, red, and shades of purple.

The dinner took place in an old rustic barn with concrete walls and wooden beams. This industrial setting required a complete transformation to make it warm and inviting. The evening’s theme? A subtle fusion of Christmas and Asian inspirations, with a vibrant palette of reds, pinks, and golds.

We hung Vietnamese lanterns from the ceiling, paired with small string lights to add a magical touch. This setup took several hours and plenty of persistence: the wires supporting the lanterns occasionally gave way under the weight, but by reinforcing them with additional wire, we managed to create a stunning installation.

The table settings were meticulously planned down to the smallest detail. Mismatched vintage plates with gold accents, matching golden cutlery, and napkins folded into fans added both charm and elegance. Guests found a personalized card with their Chinese zodiac sign on their plate, and Vietnamese chopsticks were offered as a keepsake.

Flowering Christmas trees illuminated the barn, adding a magical ambiance to the evening. As a surprise, a dragon dance mesmerized the guests during dinner.

To fully immerse each guest in this unique universe, we created a dedicated website, accessible through a specially shared password.
More than just a practical tool, the website served as an invitation to the experience. It featured not only all the necessary event details but also a mood board designed to inspire every aspect of the guests’ outfits. A fusion palette blending Asian influences and the elegance of the holiday season encouraged everyone to embrace the theme and prepare to fully experience an evening of wonder.

Organizing this event was no simple feat, but it was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful I’ve had the chance to create for LTDJ. Why? Because, in fact, it was my wedding. Surprise!

We poured our hearts into merging our cultures for a Franco-Vietnamese wedding and welcomed loved ones from all corners of the world. While the day wasn’t without its share of mishaps—like the spectacular fall of our wedding cake before it was even served—it remains a magical and authentic moment.

If you’re planning your own wedding, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’d be delighted to inspire you or share the contacts of trusted vendors (coordination, makeup, photography, DJ, etc.).

With love,
Joséphine
